Lifestyle Diseases in Kerala : Causes and Remedies

With the development in technology, industries and culture, the lifestyle of people has

also faced a lot of transformations. Kerala was a health conscious state so far. But now a

days, it is turning to be the centre of lifestyle diseases. The world health organisation said,

these lifestyle diseases resulted in two thirds of all deaths.

The lifestyle diseases are commonly caused by alcohol, drug and smoking abuse as well as

lack of physical activity and unhealthy eating habits. During the busy schedules people get

into in the normal working days, most of them forget to have their food at the right time.

Very often people have junk foods to fill their stomach. Nothing big can help you to have an

appointment with your doctor on a weekly basis. The unhealthy eating habits are far enough

for that. Diabetes is another modern lifestyle disease. There are about 1.5 million diabetes

subjects in Kerala. Childhood and adolescent obesity is not limited to developed countries. It

is also found in developing countries. In Kerala, almost 18% children face the problem of

overweight and obesity. The cause is nothing big, but the current lifestyle of the children.

The best remedies for these diseases are nothing but prevention itself. The decisions and

influences made on us in our early life have got a great impact on us. Hence, prevention

begins from children. Parents should set them on the correct path. Overweight and obesity

can be prevented through a well balanced lifestyle through healthy eating and exercises. All

other causes of lifestyle diseases can be prevented through giving up smoking and other

drugs, reducing ones intake of alcohols, processed meats like bacon and sausages, red meats

like pork, beef and lamb, fatty foods and by engaging in physical activities.

Lifestyle is all about the way you live your life under all circumstances. The day you learn to

live healthy, then you will have not just a joyous life, but a longer and happy one. Strive to

live long by spreading a broad smile on your face.
